My two granddaughters are bilingual. When they first came to the USA they used to mix german and english words. The youngest didn`t like to buckle up so that German grandpa said," wenn du dich nicht anschnallst wird die Polizei uns anhalten." next day her older sister forgot to buckle up and she complaint" I had to anschnallen because the peaceman kommt."
Another day mother asked her " bring mir bitte den Topf" she is not in the mood and answerd" we have no Topf". Both are now mothers and their children are bilingual also and the same thing happens. We use to look at each other and smile.The older granddaughter now lives in Germany the younger in the States. Iam glad that we have the possibility to meet very often.
