My life in South Africa

Recently, I have been asked by a member of this group to contribute stories of my life in South Africa.
I live since my retirement, eight years ago, in a small coastal village on the shores of the southern Indian Ocean, where the waters are wild, the winds are high and the beaches range from stony and rugged to lovely and covered in soft sand of the finest quality ranging from purest white to ivory. Stillbay is nestled at the mouth of the river GouKou. The name of this river is derived from the name of a late Koi-Chief who lived in this area, which today consists of a fishing village of the Koi people and a holiday village occupied by White people. Statistics say, Stillbay is the only town in South Africa that is only occupied by Whited only. This might well be so, but the little place bustles with people of all shades of brown. The Supermarket staff and the Municipality is purely stocked with Coulored people from the area who are ferried in and out with buses into the neighbouring townships.
The residents of Stillbay are mostly retired people and holiyday makers, as well as, business people who manage the daily works and shops in Stillbay.

Stillbay residents are very devout. There are 15 official Church buildings of different Christian denominations and just as many "house churches" who meet in residential homes. Every Sunday the town is literally empty in the mornings, because everybody is out worshiping. During Sunday Lunchtime restaurants are backed with Church goers where they can enjoy the sumptuous Sunday carvery. After that everybody goes home for a little afternoon snooze to meet later with friends or neighbours for afternoon tea or coffee.
We are a real hideaway and the most famous people could just get lost here and have a splendid holiday without ever being recognised or followed by Paparazzi. There are many opportunities for fishing, boating, surfing, wind surfing and the little town even boasts a small airfield for private air traffic.
